Habib Beye Sacked By Olympique De Marseille After Four-Month Tenure

Habib Beye’s spell as head coach of Marseille has ended after a little more than four months, with French reports indicating Bruno Genesio is expected to take over following the end of Genesio’s contract at Lille, bringing another change in the dugout for the Ligue 1 club.

The decision was confirmed in an official club communication, which also expressed appreciation for Beye’s work during a challenging period. Olympique de Marseille announces the end of its collaboration with Habib Beye, the club said in a statement. The club thanks Habib Beye and wishes him all the best for the future of his career. Marseille did not provide further detail on the reasons behind the dismissal.

Beye stepped in during February, succeeding Roberto De Zerbi, and led Marseille in 13 competitive fixtures across domestic and European competitions. The 48-year-old, who previously played for the club from 2003 to 2007, recorded six wins, two draws and five defeats, while the team scored seven goals and allowed 18 during that sequence.

When Beye took over, Marseille sat fourth in Ligue 1, 12 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. By the end of the campaign, Marseille finished fifth, still in fourth place when he arrived, but 17 points behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, securing a Europa League position despite the increased gap at the top.

Genesio, who recently completed his agreement with Lille, is widely reported in France as Marseille’s choice to replace Beye. The change means Marseille will enter the new season, and the upcoming Europa League campaign, with another coach in charge after a brief and mixed period under Beye.
