Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi may have earned a place in India’s T20I squad, but former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel believes there is no reason to rush his international debut.
The 15-year-old has generated enormous excitement after a stunning rise through the ranks, with many fans expecting him to walk straight into the Indian playing XI. However, Parthiv feels the youngster should first adapt to the demands of international cricket before being handed his cap.

Speaking on JioHotstar, Parthiv stressed that selection is only the beginning of the journey and that every cricketer must wait for the right opportunity.
“Just because Vaibhav is in the squad doesn’t mean he has to play immediately. He is only 15 years old. Let him understand the environment, spend time with the team and learn how international cricket functions,” Patel said.
The former Gujarat Titans assistant coach pointed out that India already possess several experienced batters competing for places, making it difficult for newcomers to break straight into the starting lineup.
“When your time comes, you should be ready. But earning that opportunity is equally important,” the former India player added.
Parthiv also highlighted that being around senior players and the national team setup can be a valuable learning experience for a young cricketer. According to him, exposure to international standards without the immediate pressure of performing can aid long-term development.
While calls for Sooryavanshi’s debut have grown louder following India’s recent struggles, Parthiv urged patience, insisting that careful handling of prodigious talent is crucial.
The teenager enjoyed a sensational IPL campaign and has continued to impress in age-group cricket, prompting widespread belief that an India debut is only a matter of time. Nevertheless, Parthiv believes the management is right to avoid rushing the youngster, allowing him to develop naturally before taking the next step in his career.
India will be aiming to take the lead in the 2nd T20I on Saturday (July 4) after the first match was abandoned due to rain.
