The Chennai Super Kings have officially parted ways with head coach Stephen Fleming, bringing an end to one of the longest and most successful coach-franchise partnerships in IPL history.
CSK confirmed on Monday that the decision was mutual, concluding an association that began in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 when Fleming joined as a player before taking over as head coach in 2009.

The New Zealander oversaw an unprecedented period of sustained success, guiding CSK to five IPL titles, two Champions League T20 crowns, 10 IPL finals and 12 playoff appearances over 17 seasons.

| IPL Titles | 5 (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) |
| Champions League T20 Titles | 2 (2010, 2014) |
| IPL Finals | 10 |

Fleming’s tenure became synonymous with consistency. CSK qualified for the playoffs in 12 of the 15 IPL seasons they participated in, with only Mumbai Indians matching their tally of five IPL titles.
From dominance to rebuilding
The decision comes after CSK endured one of the most difficult phases in franchise history.
The five-time champions finished at the bottom of the table in both the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons as they struggled through a period of transition following changes in leadership and squad composition.
The downturn marked a stark contrast to the stability that had defined the Fleming era, during which CSK were regular contenders regardless of personnel changes.

“On behalf of everyone at the Super Kings franchise, we extend our deepest gratitude for his unwavering commitment, passion, and leadership. While our journey together on the field comes to a close, he will always remain an integral part of the team’s legacy.”

“Together, we celebrated unforgettable victories, overcame difficult moments, and built memories that will stay with me forever. CSK will always be close to my heart, and I will be cheering the team on for years to come.”
