History At Lords: India Women’s Team Seal Maiden Victory Against England In One-Off Test

The Indian women’s team etched their name in the history books as they defeated England in the one-off test. The women in blue sealed a mammoth win over England by 270 runs.

With the win, India secured the second-highest victory in terms of margin in Women’s Tests, the fourth biggest overall. The record for the biggest victory by runs in the format was set in 2023 when India thrashed England by 347 runs in Navi Mumbai.

After being asked to bat first by the hosts, India posted 285 in their first innings, powered by impressive half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

In response to India’s mammoth target, England were bowled out for 170 runs as Kranti Gaud took charge, becoming the first Indian to take a 5-wicket haul during a Women’s Test at Lords.

Left-hand batter Yastika Bhatia then extended India’s domination in the game, notching the first triple-digit score at the venue during the momentous Women’s Test.

Other vital contributions included a second half-century from Smriti Mandhana and another from Richa Ghosh. India sealed the Test with another dominant bowling performance in the fourth innings, completing a comprehensive victory.

Despite the crushing defeat, the match marked the end of an era for England, as Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight made their final international appearances. The pair, who played pivotal roles in England’s triumph at the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at the same venue, have now retired from all forms of international cricket.
