Hansika Lamba Wins Silver as India’s Medal Tally Reaches Five at Polyák Imre Wrestling Ranking Tournament 2026

India continued its impressive run at the Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial Senior Ranking Tournament 2026, with Hansika Lamba headlining Day 2 by claiming a silver medal in the women’s 55kg category.

The former U23 World Championship silver medallist showcased tremendous fighting spirit throughout the competition. Her standout moment came in the semifinals, where she produced a stunning turnaround against Germany’s Anastasia Blayvas. Trailing 2-7, Hansika mounted a remarkable comeback with a flurry of attacking moves to secure a 10-7 victory and book her place in the title clash.

In the final, Hansika faced Ukraine’s Nataliia Klivchutska. Despite a determined effort, the Indian wrestler was unable to break through her opponent’s defence and settled for silver after a 0-5 defeat on points. The podium finish further strengthens her excellent 2026 campaign, having also won bronze at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships earlier this year.

India also celebrated two more medals in the men’s freestyle events as Vishal Kaliraman and Rajat Ruhal finished with bronze.

Competing in the 65kg category, Vishal controlled his bronze-medal contest from start to finish, defeating Kazakhstan’s Ossumzhan Dastanbek 8-2 with a disciplined tactical display.

Heavyweight wrestler Rajat Ruhal secured bronze in the 125kg division under unusual circumstances. His opponent, American wrestler Mason Mark Parris, was forced to withdraw because of an injury before the contest could be completed, handing the Indian the victory by forfeit.

With three medals added on the second day, India’s overall tally has risen to five medals at the ranking tournament. The team had already enjoyed a successful opening day, where Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat captured the gold medal in the men’s 57kg category, while Deepak earned bronze in the 61kg class.

Attention now shifts to the remaining women’s freestyle events, with bouts in the 59kg, 62kg, 65kg and 68kg categories set to begin later tonight. India will be represented by Neha (59kg), Mansi (62kg) and Nisha (68kg) as the contingent aims to add to its medal tally.
