India vs Sri Lanka: SLC Announces Free Entry for Fans in Test Series, Entry details Provided

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board has announced that public admission for the upcoming two-match Test series against India will be completely free of charge. The highly anticipated series, which is a crucial part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027 cycle, is set to begin next week.

The first Test match will be played at the picturesque Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19. Following the series opener, the cricketing action will shift to the capital city, where the historic Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Grounds in Colombo will host the second and final Test from August 23 to 27.

The decision to waive gate fees comes as a strategic move by the SLC to ensure packed stands. In recent years, Test cricket in Sri Lanka has struggled to attract large crowds, with even high-profile matches featuring the Indian team often being played in front of mostly empty stadiums. By offering free entry, the board hopes to recreate a lively, traditional stadium atmosphere.

Confirming the development in an official release on Friday, the board stated, “Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to announce that public admission to the upcoming Test Series between Sri Lanka and India will be free of charge thus providing cricket fans with an excellent opportunity to witness world-class Test cricket”.

The board also extended a special invitation to the younger generation and local families, adding, “Sri Lanka Cricket warmly invites cricket enthusiasts, young aspiring cricketers, families, and sports fans from across the country to take advantage of this initiative and experience the excitement of international Test cricket between Sri Lanka and India”.

IND v SL: Smooth Access for Spectators

To ensure that the free entry process remains organized and hassle-free, the SLC has designated specific entry points at both venues.

Galle International Stadium: Fans attending the opening Test can access the stands through Gate No. 4.

SSC Grounds, Colombo: For the second Test, spectators will be facilitated through Gates 3, 4, 5, and 7.

Meanwhile, the Indian team is already in Colombo, participating in a three-day warm-up fixture against a Sri Lanka XI. Regular skipper Shubman Gill missed the opening day of the practice match due to a minor right ring finger injury sustained during a training session, with KL Rahul stepping up to lead the side in his absence.
