Director Shakeel Noorani Arrested Over R*pe & Sexual Assault; Actress Claims He Drugged & Threatened Her
According to a report by Mid-Day, the Malvani Police arrested filmmaker Shakeel Noorani in the early hours of Saturday (August 8). Reportedly, the 73-year-old director was traced to a farmhouse in Medha, Satara District, by the police before being brought to Mumbai in connection with the rape and sexual assault case filed by a 33-year-old actress.
A case has been registered against the director by the Malvani Police under Sections 64(2)(M), 123, 351(2) and 88 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case dates back to 2016, when Noorani and the actress met for the first time at an award function. In her complaint, the actress alleged that Noorani asked her to contact him regarding an upcoming project. She later visited his Malvani residence for a script-reading session, where he allegedly gave her a drink, after which she lost consciousness.
She further alleged that after she regained consciousness, the director had shown her a video on his mobile and threatened her to leak the clip if she told anything to the police or her family.
According to the FIR, Noorani would use that video to threaten her and sexually assault her on multiple occasions. She further added that he would allegedly give contraceptive pills after every sexual encounter.
As per the same report, the Borivili holiday court has remanded Shakeel Noorani in police custody till August 12 (Wednesday).
Shakeel Noorani Arrest: Lawyer Denies Charges
Following the arrest, director Shakeel Noorani’s lawyer, Vikas Singh Goar, has denied all the allegations. “The allegations made by the actress are yet to be established before a court, and the investigation is underway. Noorani is presumed innocent unless proven guilty,” he stated.
