According to Sacnilk, Batwara 1947 earned Rs 5.75 crore net in India on its opening day, which is a surprisingly low start for the film. Its worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 8.34 crore. Given the film’s scale and expectations, the Aamir Khan production venture was expected to open in double digits. However, its box office clash with Awarapan 2 has clearly worked in favour of the Emraan Hashmi starrer. Awarapan 2 recorded a bumper opening of Rs 21 crore on Friday, significantly ahead of Batwara 1947’s debut. As a result, Awarapan 2 has comfortably won the first-day box office battle, while Batwara 1947 will now need a strong jump over the weekend to recover lost ground.

All FIRs Squashed Against Samay Raina In India’s Got Latent Row
The Supreme Court on Friday (August 14) put an end to the criminal proceedings against comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina and four other comedians in connection with the alleged insensitive remarks about persons with disabilities on India’s Got Latent. According to reports, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana passed the order on August 14. Along with Samay Raina, the relief has been extended to comedians Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar, also known as Sonali Aditya Desai, and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar. The case was linked to remarks made during the controversial comedy show, which had triggered criticism and legal action. The Supreme Court also took note of the comedians’ efforts towards supporting persons with disabilities and appreciated their initiative to organise events aimed at their benefit.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film managed to earn Rs 21 crore net in India on Friday, running across 9,033 shows. The worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 27.20 crore. Awarapan 2 has collected more than three times as much as Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s Partition drama Batwara 1947, which was strategically released around Independence Day. The movie minted only Rs 8.34 crore worldwide on its first day. Moreover, Awarapan 2 is also ahead of its predecessor, Awarapan, also starring Emraan Hashmi. The 2007 movie earned around Rs 7.76 crore net in India and Rs 12 crore worldwide during its entire theatrical run, becoming a huge commercial failure, before later achieving cult status.
