Cristiano Ronaldo has offered his clearest indication yet that his extraordinary football career could be approaching its final chapter, revealing that the 2026-27 season will “probably” be his last as a professional footballer.

The 41-year-old Portugal and Al Nassr superstar made the revelation in an interview with Vogue following his recent marriage to longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo, who has spent more than two decades at the highest level, said he wants to end his playing career by leaving behind a legacy that reflects the sacrifices he has made throughout his journey.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said in an interview with Vogue.

Ronaldo’s current Al Nassr contract runs until the summer of 2027, meaning his comments could signal an intention to walk away from professional football when his present deal comes to an end. His decision would bring down the curtain on one of the most remarkable careers in the history of the sport.

The Portuguese forward also opened up about his plans for life after football. Rather than remaining involved in the game, Ronaldo said he has already mapped out a future filled with family time, travel and his growing passion for padel.

“I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard. Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one. And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I’ve earned – what we’ve earned. Because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice,” he added.

Ronaldo began his senior career with Sporting CP before moving to Manchester United, where he established himself as one of the world’s biggest stars. He subsequently enjoyed a legendary nine-year spell at Real Madrid, scoring 450 goals in 438 appearances, before playing for Juventus and returning to Manchester United. He joined Al Nassr in January 2023.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is now closing in on another extraordinary milestone: 1,000 goals across his senior career and he is just 24 goals away.

For now, Ronaldo remains focused on football and Al Nassr. But if his latest comments prove accurate, the world may have only one more season to watch one of football’s greatest-ever players before he finally walks away from the game.
