Yashasvi Jaiswal ‘I’ll Take You to IPL’ Banter With Dickwella Ends in Wicket

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s playful exchange with Niroshan Dickwella produced one of the lighter moments of India’s Test against Sri Lanka in Galle – before Prasidh Krishna ended the conversation in the same over.

With Sri Lanka battling to stay alive in the fourth innings, Jaiswal was positioned behind the stumps when he began encouraging Dickwella to attack the Indian bowlers.

What did Yashasvi Jaiswal say to Niroshan Dickwella?

Jaiswal urged Dickwella to play more aggressively and target the leg side.

“Come on yaar, there was a lot of shots in first innings. We need to see something, come on,” Jaiswal told him.

When Dickwella asked what he wanted to see, Jaiswal pointed towards deep square leg and encouraged him to hit a six.

“Come on, show me. Hit him there, come on. Why not?”

Dickwella then came back with a cheeky response, telling Jaiswal that he would take the risk if he could get him into the IPL.

“No requirement. Take me to IPL, then I’ll hit,” Dickwella said.

Jaiswal immediately played along.

“We will, we will. 100%. Come on, hit him a six, I’ll take you to the IPL.”

“Thank you,” Dickwella replied.

## Dickwella dismissed in the same over

The exchange quickly took an ironic turn.

Prasidh Krishna continued his attack against Dickwella with a series of short deliveries. The Sri Lankan batter eventually edged one through to Rishabh Pant.

Dickwella was dismissed for 10, ending his brief resistance and leaving Sri Lanka’s lower order exposed.

The wicket also meant that Jaiswal’s promise of an IPL opportunity would remain firmly in the realm of on-field banter.

## India closing in on victory in Galle

The dismissal came as India continued to push for victory in the first Test.

India had set Sri Lanka a target of 372 after reaching 193 in their second innings. The hosts had already lost four wickets by the end of Day 4.

Sri Lanka’s resistance on the final day had been led by Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha, who both scored half-centuries.

India eventually removed de Silva before Krishna accounted for Dickwella, leaving the visitors four wickets away from sealing a 1-0 lead in the series.

The Jaiswal-Dickwella exchange offered a brief moment of humour in an otherwise tense final-day battle, but Krishna’s wicket ensured India remained firmly in control.
