IND vs SL: Niroshan Dickwella falls in ‘IPL Trap’ set by Yashasvi, Loses Wicket Immediately after Exchange

Niroshan Dickwella’s return to Test cricket produced one of the lighter moments of the India-Sri Lanka Test in Galle, as the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter found himself at the centre of a hilarious exchange with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

With Sri Lanka battling to stay alive in the Test, Dickwella was at the crease when Jaiswal, positioned at square leg, began engaging him in conversation.

The Indian batter urged Dickwella to attack the bowling and even encouraged him to hit a six. And the exchange started soon.

“Come on yaar, there was a lot of shots in first innings. We need to see something, come on,” Jaiswal said.

Dickwella appeared to play along before replying, “Yes?”

Jaiswal continued to push him, saying, “Yes, I want to see. Come on, show me. Hit him there, come on. Why not?”

Dickwella then came up with a cheeky response, linking the situation to the Indian Premier League. “No requirement. Take me (to) IPL, then I’ll hit.”

Jaiswal immediately accepted the challenge and promised to help him out.

“We will, we will. 100%. Come on, hit him a six, I’ll take you to the IPL,” Jaiswal said.

Dickwella responded with a simple, “Thank you.”

The exchange, however, ended almost perfectly for India. Dickwella soon attempted an attacking shot but was dismissed. He tried to make room and club Prasidh Krishna for a six, but only managed an edge and Rishabh Pant completed a simple catch.

For Dickwella, it was ultimately a frustrating end to an entertaining few moments. For Jaiswal, it was another example of his lively presence on the field – and perhaps one of the more unusual “assists” for a wicket.

The moment quickly went viral, with viewers praising the friendly banter between the two players. Soon after Dickwella fell, Sri Lanka also fell apart. Manav Suthar picked up six wickets as the hosts were bundled out for just 206 runs, handing India a convincing win by 165 runs.
