Global Chess League Season 4: Schedule, Top Players to Watch, Tickets – All You Need To Know

The Global Chess League (GCL) is all set to return to India for its fourth season, with Bengaluru preparing to host six global franchises from September 5 to 13. A joint initiative between Tech Mahindra and FIDE, GCL Season 4 promises nine days of rapid, team-based chess featuring some of the biggest names in the sport.

Defending champions Alpine APL Pipers will begin their title defence with five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen leading the team. PBG Alaskan Knights boast Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand alongside rising star Arjun Erigaisi.

Meanwhile, Ganges Grandmasters will feature former World Championship challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi and returning star Levon Aronian. Fyers American Gambits will be led by 2026 Candidates winner Javokhir Sindarov and Season 2 MVP Nihal Sarin, adding further star power to the competition.

The fourth season will continue GCL’s unique team format, with six players representing each franchise across Icons, Superstar Men, Superstar Women and Prodigies. Men and women compete together, with every board carrying equal value towards the team’s overall result.

The league is also placing fans at the centre of its Bengaluru experience through its “Most Important Seat Is Empty” campaign. The Festival Arena will feature live screenings, commentary, fan experiences and food, offering spectators an experience beyond the chessboards.

Gourav Rakshit, Commissioner, Global Chess League, said the league is “built to be experienced live” and that Bengaluru will allow fans to get closer to the action, from the rapid intensity of the matches to the Festival Arena.

Season 4 marks GCL’s second consecutive season in India after its Mumbai edition in 2025. Having previously staged editions in Dubai and London, the league’s move to Bengaluru further strengthens its position as a global team-sport property.

With Bengaluru’s strong connection to technology, innovation and sport, GCL Season 4 is expected to deliver a high-energy combination of elite chess, entertainment and fan engagement.

Ticket sales for the much-awaited season are now open on BookMyShow, with Early Bird tickets starting at ₹349. The league has also introduced a ₹2,999 Premium ticket, which provides access to all four matches of the day, the Festival Arena and the Premium Lounge.
