“Deeply Honoured”: Tavengwa Mukuhlani Appointed ICC Deputy Chairperson Until November 2027

New Delhi, Sep 17: The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has appointed Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani as its new Deputy Chairperson, with his term set to run until November 2027.

Mukuhlani, who represents Zimbabwe Cricket on the ICC Board, succeeds Imran Khwaja following the latter’s departure from the Board. The appointment makes Mukuhlani the first Zimbabwean to hold the position of ICC Deputy Chairperson.

Mukuhlani already serves on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee and the Nominations Committee, while also chairing the HR and Remuneration Committee. His appointment comes at an important time for African cricket, with Zimbabwe set to co-host the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia.

The tournament will mark the return of the men’s World Cup to Africa after 24 years, with the ICC highlighting the event as an opportunity to further expand cricket’s reach across the continent.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed Mukuhlani’s appointment and highlighted his administrative experience and understanding of the global game.

“I warmly congratulate Tavengwa Mukuhlani on his appointment as Deputy Chair of the ICC. His experience in cricket administration, understanding of the global game and commitment to its development will be invaluable to the ICC Board,” Shah said.

“Tavengwa has earned the confidence of his fellow Directors, and I look forward to working closely with him to strengthen cricket across our Members and create greater opportunities for the game to grow worldwide,” he added.

Mukuhlani said he was honoured by the confidence shown in him by the ICC Board and expressed his desire to contribute to the sport’s global growth.

“I am deeply honoured by the confidence placed in me by my fellow ICC Board Directors and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chair of the ICC,” he said.

“Cricket is entering an exciting period, particularly with its return to the Olympic Games and continued global expansion. I look forward to supporting our Chairman, Mr. Jay Shah, and fellow board directors in advancing our shared priorities and serving the best interests of cricket globally,” Mukuhlani added.
