Abhishek Sharma Reclaims No. 1 Spot in ICC T20I Rankings, Samson Gains Big; Shadab Khan, Ben Duckett Make ODI Gains

New Delhi, October 28: In the revised ICC Rankings released on Wednesday (October 28), flamboyant India opener Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the Men’s T20I Batting Rankings following his explosive 35-ball century against New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday (October 27).

The left-handed batter’s return marks his second stint at the summit. Abhishek previously held the top spot from July 2025 to June 2026 before losing the position. His latest rise has pushed team-mate Ishan Kishan down to third after Kishan spent four months at No. 1. Kishan has missed the second and third T20I against New Zealand due to injury and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been included in the playing 11 in his stead.

Sharma’s aggressive batting and record 118-run partnership inside the powerplay with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, helped India chase down the target of 199 inside 13.2 overs, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five match series.

The latest ICC rankings update also features notable gains for Indian and New Zealand players in T20Is, alongside significant movements in the men’s ODI rankings following the ongoing tri-series involving Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has advanced seven places to seventh in the T20I bowling rankings. India’s Arshdeep Singh has climbed six places to 15th, while pace bowler Prince Yadav has gained 19 places to reach 83rd.

England batters Ben Duckett and Harry Brook have each advanced six places, moving to seventh and eighth, respectively. Duckett scored 105 against Pakistan, while Brook smashed the fastest double century in men’s ODI cricket against Sri Lanka. Both performances, however, came in defeats.

Sri Lanka’s Janith Liyanage has moved up 10 places to 14th, while Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has gained seven places to 20th. Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has climbed 15 places to 45th, and the Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd has advanced seven places to 55th.
