India A Vs Sri Lanka A Tri-series Final: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Likely To Grab Eyeballs In Dambulla

India A will face Sri Lanka A in the tri-series final in Dambulla on Sunday, starting 10am IST, with teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi again under focus after the teams’ tense Super Over meeting. Sri Lanka A won that league game, and the on-field clash later drew attention.

India A lost the earlier match after scores were tied at the end of 50 overs. Sri Lanka A made 16 in the Super Over and kept India A to nine. Rookie pacer Kugathas Mathulan played a key role, while the finish turned heated between both sides.

Visuals showed Sri Lanka A players Vishen Halambage and Wanuja Sahan exchanging words with the departing Indian batters. Suryansh Shedge was seen pointing his bat towards Halambage, before Sooryavanshi turned back and entered a heated exchange. The two then shoved each other before Niroshan Dickwella separated them.

Sooryavanshi in focus

Sooryavanshi, 15, has been named in India’s senior squad for the T20I series against Ireland and England. He also had a strong IPL 2026 season, scoring 776 runs in 16 matches at a strike-rate of 237.31, with 72 sixes.

His starts in Dambulla have been less fluent on slow pitches. In four matches, he has made 14, 44, 21 and 38. He looked scratchy against Afghanistan A in India A’s last game, though he still made 38, and India A will want a stronger finish from him.

India A seek a steady finish

India A reached the final after recovering from defeat to Sri Lanka A and beating Afghanistan A. They defended 319/9 and bowled Afghanistan out for 218 in 36.5 overs. Tilak Varma, Priyansh Arya and Kumar Kushagra scored fifties, while Nishant Sindhu took 4/31.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been India A’s main batter, with 234 runs including a century. The side will also want sharper fielding after giving away 10 penalty runs against Sri Lanka A, when Vipraj Nigam was penalised twice for running on the danger area.

Key players

With the ball, India A will look to Arshad Khan and Yash Thakur for early wickets, while Nishant Sindhu, Nigam and Anukul Roy may matter on the slow surface. Arshad had helped force the earlier Super Over by conceding just four runs in the 50th over.

For Sri Lanka A, Avishka Fernando remains the main batting threat with 285 runs from four matches, including two centuries in his last three innings. Mathulan, who has six wickets in three innings, will again be watched closely after his impact in the Super Over win.
