Ireland vs India: Lorcan Tucker Named Permanent T20I Captain, Full Squad Revealed

Ireland have ushered in a new era in T20I cricket by appointing wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker as their permanent captain ahead of the two-match series against India in Belfast.

The 29-year-old takes over leadership duties at a time when Ireland are dealing with a lengthy injury list and preparing to face a strong Indian side later this week.

Tucker Rewarded For Experience And Leadership

Tucker has been one of Ireland’s most consistent performers across formats over the last decade. Since making his international debut in 2016, he has featured in 159 matches for Ireland and established himself as a key figure in the batting order.

The wicketkeeper-batter is no stranger to leadership either. He currently captains Leinster Lightning in Ireland’s Inter-Provincial competition and has previously led the Irish men’s team on two occasions.

His appointment signals Ireland’s desire for stability and continuity as they begin building towards future ICC events.

## Injury Crisis Forces Major Changes

Ireland’s squad for the India series has been heavily impacted by injuries, with several first-choice players unavailable.

Regular captain Paul Stirling is among six senior players sidelined, alongside Josh Little, Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy and Jordan Neill.

The absence of so many experienced names has forced selectors to look towards the next generation, creating opportunities for several emerging players.

Fresh Faces Receive First Call-Ups

Among the biggest talking points is the inclusion of Matthew Hollard and Jai Moondra, both of whom have earned their maiden senior international call-ups.

Reuben Wilson, who made his Test debut against New Zealand last month, is also in line for a T20I debut after being named in the squad.

The series therefore presents a valuable opportunity for Ireland to assess its bench strength against one of the strongest white-ball teams in world cricket.

Tough Test Against India Awaits

India arrive in Belfast with a revamped squad featuring several established international stars and emerging talents.

For Ireland, the series offers a chance to test themselves against elite opposition while beginning a new chapter under Tucker’s leadership.

The hosts will hope home conditions at Stormont can help bridge the experience gap created by their injury concerns.

The first T20I will be played at Stormont, Belfast, on June 26, while the second match will take place at the same venue on June 28.
