Pakistan ODI Squad vs Australia: Full List of Players Announced as Shaheen Afridi Captains, Babar Azam included

Pakistan have finalised their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, scheduled to begin on May 30.

The selection panel has made some significant changes, most notably recalling former captain Babar Azam while dropping experienced wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as captain, with all-rounder Salman Ali Agha serving as his deputy.

Several key players have been brought back into the 50-over setup after being absent during the recent series against Bangladesh. These include Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan, and Sufyan Moqim.

Three players — Ahmed Daniyal, Arafat Minhas, and Rohail Nazir, are yet to make their ODI debuts for Pakistan. While Daniyal and Minhas have prior T20I experience, Nazir is completely new to international white-ball cricket at this level.

Opening batsmen Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman were not considered due to ongoing recovery from injuries. Sahibzada Farhan has retained his place in the squad in their absence.

Pakistan head into the series on the back of disappointing results against Bangladesh in both ODIs and the recently concluded Test series. However, they will face a heavily rotated Australian team led by Mitchell Marsh. Australia have rested their premier fast bowlers — Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins.

This marks Australia’s first ODI tour to Pakistan since 2022, when the current World Champions were defeated 2-1 by the hosts.
