Fenerbahce Agree To Sign Nathan Ake From Manchester City

Fenerbahce have confirmed that an agreement is in place to sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City, with reports in England suggesting the fee is close to 7m. The Netherlands defender is set to join the Turkish Super Lig side in time for pre-season, after agreements were finalised with both Ake and City.

Ake, who arrived at Manchester City from Bournemouth in 2020 for 41m, leaves after a medal-filled spell at the Etihad Stadium. During four seasons under Pep Guardiola, Ake won 12 major trophies and became a regular part of one of Europe’s most successful squads.

Fenerbahce’s move for Ake comes after the club finished second in the Super Lig last season, three points behind long-time rivals Galatasaray. The Istanbul side have not lifted the Turkish championship since the 2013-14 campaign, and the current 12-season wait is the longest title drought in Fenerbahce’s history.

Ake’s switch to the Turkish Super Lig follows a season in which the defender started only 17 matches for Manchester City. A departure this summer had been expected, with Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones also widely linked with exits, signalling a shift in the core of City’s squad.

Across Ake’s time at Manchester City, the defender collected four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two EFL Cups and the club’s first Champions League crown. That European success came in the 2022-23 season, when City completed a historic treble by also winning the league and FA Cup.

The 2023-24 campaign actually brought Ake his heaviest workload in Manchester. Ake played 44 matches in all competitions, started 35 times and logged 3,057 minutes, all personal highs for a single season with City, as the team secured the most recent Premier League title.

Ake had already been trusted in key matches one year earlier. During the 2022-23 treble season, Ake made 41 appearances and played the full 90 minutes in the Champions League final victory over Inter. That performance helped secure City’s first European Cup triumph.

Fenerbahce stated that agreements have been reached with both the player and Manchester City, and Ake will report for their pre-season training camp in Austria after a period of leave. The club highlighted Ake’s role with the Netherlands national team and referenced participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ake arrives with consistent experience of title races, domestic cup runs and Champions League campaigns, at a time when Fenerbahce are seeking to close a narrow gap to Galatasaray and end a long wait for the Super Lig trophy.
