Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will stay at Celtic for the 2026-27 campaign after agreeing a new one-year contract with the Scottish Premiership champions on Saturday. The midfielder is targeting another strong season in Glasgow after contributing to a league and Scottish Cup double in 2025-26.
The 32-year-old featured 12 times in all competitions under Martin O’Neill last season, starting five matches and scoring twice. Oxlade-Chamberlain played a supporting role in the title win and Scottish Cup success and now wants more trophies with Celtic during the next 12 months.

“I’m delighted to be staying at Celtic for another year,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told the club’s official website. “It was an incredible time last season and to be part of that success in winning the league and Scottish Cup was so special. I’m really excited to be back, and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the boys and getting to work ahead of what will hopefully be another successful season.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain originally joined Celtic in February on a short-term agreement that included the option of an additional year. Club officials have now activated that clause, ensuring Oxlade-Chamberlain remains in Glasgow. Reports had linked Oxlade-Chamberlain with interest from MLS sides and European clubs, but the midfielder will instead rejoin Celtic’s pre-season training camp.
Celtic have not yet completed any signings during the current summer window, although the club are reported to be monitoring Qarabag striker Camilo Duran. Dinko Horkas, the Las Palmas goalkeeper, is also said to be under consideration as Celtic assess options to strengthen the squad.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s situation remains unresolved after the attacker’s contract at Celtic expired at the end of last season. The club held a one-year extension option but chose not to use it, while Bursaspor are reportedly looking into a possible transfer for Iheanacho ahead of the new season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s stay adds experience to Martin O’Neill’s group as Celtic defend the Premiership and Scottish Cup. With interest in Duran and Horkas and Iheanacho potentially departing, Celtic’s squad could still change, but Oxlade-Chamberlain’s decision provides continuity before the 2026-27 campaign begins.
