After writing history at the Japan Open, PV Sindhu will now spearhead India’s campaign at the China Open Super 1000 tournament, which starts from Tuesday, July 21. But India’s marquee doubles pairing of Satwik and Chirag will be missing the China Open after the former suffered a lingering shoulder injury. In the absence of Satwik-Chirag, MR Arjun-Hariharan Amsakarunan remains the only men’s doubles pairing from India.

Sindhu heads to Changzhou in impeccable form, days after becoming the first woman to win the Japan Open title, ending a 19-month trophy drought. She will be facing her fellow Indian compatriot Unnati Hooda at the opening round of the China Open.

Apart from Sindhu & Unnati Hooda, Devika Sihag will also represent India in the women’s singles competition. She begins her campaign against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the first round. With Indian shuttlers enjoying a promising run on the BWF World Tour in recent months, expectations will be high for another strong showing. Sindhu, in particular, will aim to carry forward her encouraging performances and continue her resurgence as she looks to re-establish herself among the elite contenders on the international circuit.

India’s men’s singles challenge will be led by Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty and veteran HS Prannoy. Lakshya opens against Japan’s Yushi Tanaka, while Ayush faces Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan. Prannoy, the 2023 world championships bronze medallist, will take on Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao.

In mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila face China’s fifth-seeded pair of Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui, while Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde take on top seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping. Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun will face China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the men’s doubles opener.
