Sreelekha Mitra-Modi Poster Controversy: Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra is in the spotlight once again. The actress wears his heart on her sleeve and never shies away from speaking her mind. And because of her outspoken nature, the actress has often found herself at the centre of controversies. Now, the actress has sparked a legal storm for using a poster that featured an objectionable photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Case Filed Against Sreelekha Mitra Over ‘Offensive’ Poster Of Modi

Actress Sreelekha Mitra has landed herself in legal trouble. It all started with her participation in a student protest in Kolkata on Friday.

As per ANI, the Annadata actress had actively particpated in a student protest on Friday, a rally marching from Sealdah to Dharmatala, carrying an “objectionable”, “offensive” and “disrespectful” caricature of Modi.

A case was filed on Saturday at the Anandapur police station by BJP leader Keya Ghosh. Additional complaints have also been filed across various districts, including the Bidhannagar cyber crime police station, as per reports.

“While the Constitution of India guarantees the right to peaceful protest under Article 19(1)(b), this right is subject to reasonable restrictions,” the complaint stated. “Expressing disagreement through political protest does not extend to public defamation, intentional insult intended to breach public peace, or outrageous depictions meant to incite public discord.”

As per Times Now, following the FIR, Keya stated to the media, demanding Mitra’s arrest for insulting Modi. “This FIR has been lodged over the insult of the country’s Prime Minister. Sreelekha Mitra must be arrested as soon as possible,” Keya was quoted as saying.

Reacting to the poster controversy, Sreelekha Mitra clarified that she might be an “anti-BJP,” but it was someone else who had handed her the poster, and since she was not carrying her reading glasses with her, she couldn’t properly see the poster.

“I forgot to bring my spectacles and only had my sunglasses with me,” Mitra claimed
