Aamir Khan has reportedly emerged as the latest name linked to Race 4, adding a fresh twist to the casting chatter around one of Bollywood’s most recognisable thriller franchises. According to industry reports, the actor has heard the script, liked the material and shown interest in coming on board, though no official announcement has been made by the makers or Khan’s team.
The speculation is significant because Race 4 has already been through several rounds of rumoured casting. Saif Ali Khan, who led the first two films, was earlier said to be in consideration for a possible return. Ranbir Kapoor was also linked to the project for a while, before he reportedly denied being part of it. Aamir’s name now places the film back in the spotlight.
Aamir Khan and the Race 4 buzz
A Filmfare report quoted a source as saying that Aamir has liked the script and wants Vijay Krishna Acharya to direct the film. The source added that discussions are still underway and that things will depend on whether all key elements fall into place. For now, his involvement remains unconfirmed.
If the casting happens, Race 4 would mark another major franchise move for Aamir Khan. He previously entered the Dhoom universe with Dhoom 3, where he played the antagonist. That film became one of the biggest commercial successes of its time and gave the franchise a new scale.
Why Race 4 matters for the franchise
The Race series began in 2008 with Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif and Anil Kapoor. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, the film worked because of its twists, stylish treatment and morally grey characters. Race 2 followed in 2013 with Saif and Anil returning, while Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel joined the cast.
Race 3, released in 2018, took a different route with Salman Khan leading the film. Bobby Deol, Daisy Shah and Saqib Saleem were among the new additions. However, the film did not receive the same response as the earlier instalments and was widely seen as a weak chapter in the franchise.
That is why reports suggesting a return to the original Race flavour are important. The franchise’s appeal has always depended on betrayal, family conflict, slick pacing and surprise reveals. A strong lead actor and a tighter script could help the fourth film reconnect with that identity.
Aamir Khan was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par and has also been active as a producer. Whether he eventually signs Race 4 or not, the renewed interest around the film shows that the franchise still has strong recall among Bollywood audiences. For now, fans will have to wait for an official confirmation from the makers.
