Actor-DJ Ashmit Patel, who frequently visits Nepal for his DJ concerts and has a strong fan base in the country, has come out in support of the citizens of Nepal amid the ongoing crisis in the Himalayan nation. Expressing solidarity, the actor known for films like Murder, Jai Ho and Fight Club – Members Only said his connection with Nepal goes beyond music and concerts. The country holds a special place in his heart.
A massive glacial collapse on the Nepal-Tibet border triggered flash floods and mudslides on August 26, killing at least 157 people and leaving hundreds missing. The deluge along Lhende Khola and Bhote Koshi rivers wiped out villages, bridges and the Gyirong Port crossing.
Reacting to the tragedy, the actor said, “The experts are right, and we can no longer ignore what is happening right in front of us. The mountains are literally crying out for help. Because of rising global temperatures, the Himalayas are changing rapidly, making these terrifying flash floods and landslides happen far too often. It is a massive wake-up call that our old ways of doing things are not working anymore. We absolutely must invest in advanced, real-time warning systems so communities downstream have a fighting chance to evacuate safely. Governments and planners need to wake up and work together to protect these fragile areas before another tragedy happens. Nature is moving faster than our defences, and we have to catch up to protect innocent lives.”
Calling upon the youth to turn grief into action, he added, “To everyone reading this, especially the younger generation, don’t let this tragedy make you feel helpless. Let it be a loud wake-up call. What is happening in the mountains right now isn’t just a distant headline, it is the real, human cost of ignoring our planet. Climate action isn’t a textbook chapter anymore, it is about our actual survival. I urge you to use your collective voice online and offline to demand real change and protect the environment. The future belongs to you, and the fight to save it starts right now.”
Patel also said he was deeply pained by the visuals emerging from the Himalayan nation.
“It is absolutely heartbreaking to scroll through social media and see those videos and clippings coming out of Nepal. Behind every clip of raging water and broken homes are real families, real lives being washed away in seconds. It is deeply disturbing and painful to watch from afar, and my heart goes out to everyone caught in this nightmare,” he said.
