Shrachi Rarh Tigers emerged as the new champions of the Bengal T20 League Season 3 men’s competition after defeating Sobisco Smashers Malda by nine runs via the DLS Method in a rain-affected final at the iconic Eden Gardens on Sunday. The triumph marked the Tigers’ first-ever title in the tournament and ensured that the league crowned a different champion for the third consecutive season.
After persistent rain forced the final to be reduced to 15 overs per side, the Tigers were asked to bat first. Their innings got off to a disastrous start as they were rocked early and slipped to 10/3, handing Malda the early advantage.

However, captain Shahbaz Ahmed produced a remarkable rescue act under pressure. Displaying both composure and aggression, the left-hander stitched together a match-defining partnership with Gaurav Singh Chauhan to revive the innings. Shahbaz remained unbeaten on a sensational 88 off just 46 deliveries, smashing seven boundaries and six towering sixes. Chauhan complemented him perfectly with a fluent 55 off 30 balls as the duo shifted the momentum decisively in favour of the Tigers.
The pair’s counterattack helped Shrachi Rarh Tigers recover from their precarious position and finish with an imposing 165/4 from their allotted 15 overs. Akhil was the standout performer with the ball for Malda, picking up two wickets.
Rain interruptions once again influenced the contest during the chase, leaving Sobisco Smashers Malda with a revised target of 107 runs in nine overs. The challenge required an aggressive approach from the outset, and Malda responded positively despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran led the charge with a brisk 38 off 22 balls and kept his side in contention. However, the required run rate continued to climb as the Tigers’ bowlers maintained their discipline during the crucial stages. Sukhmeet Singh starred with the ball, claiming two important wickets, while Raju Halder and Rohit Kumar chipped in with one wicket each.
Despite a spirited effort, Malda finished on 97/5 in their allotted nine overs, falling nine runs short of the target as Shrachi Rarh Tigers sealed a memorable victory and lifted the coveted trophy.
