Bollywood Celebs With Foreign Citizenship: Desi dil, but videsi passport! Actor Imran Khan’s ‘Leave India’ notice has taken the internet by storm, bringing several Bollywood celebrities who hold foreign citizenship into the spotlight.
Until 2023, Bollywood’s Khiladi, Akshay Kumar, was also among the celebrities holding foreign citizenship. He held Canadian citizenship before officially regaining his Indian citizenship on India’s Independence Day, August 15, 2023.
1) Imran Khan
Citizenship: American
Imran Khan has landed in the headlines after being served a ‘Leave India’ notice by the Mumbai Police over his participation in CJP’s (Cockroach Janta Party) anti-CEC protest held in Mumbai last week. The Bollywood actor holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card and is not an Indian citizen.
2) Alia Bhatt
Citizenship: British
Surprisingly, National Film Award-winning actress Alia Bhatt is also among the Bollywood celebrities who hold foreign citizenship. Despite being born and raised in Mumbai, Alia holds British citizenship through her mother, Soni Razdan, who was born in Birmingham, England.
3) Katrina Kaif
Citizenship: British
Despite ruling Bollywood for years, Katrina Kaif holds British citizenship! Born in Hong Kong to a British mother, the actress went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars and the woman behind the ₹400 crore beauty brand Kay Beauty. On the personal front, Katrina is happily married to Vicky Kaushal and a proud mom to their lil one Vihaan (son).
4) Diljit Dosanjh
Citizenship: US
Diljit Dosanjh’s citizenship status made headlines a few months ago, with reports raising questions about his nationality. A report by The Indian Express claimed that the ‘Proper Patola’ singer and actor became a US citizen in 2022 and has been using an American passport for international travel since September 1, 2022.
5) Nora Fatehi
Citizenship: Canadian
The Moroccan beauty and Bollywood’s very own ‘Dilbar’ girl, Nora Fatehi, holds Canadian citizenship. The Moroccan-Canadian star was born and raised in Toronto to Moroccan parents before making her mark in B-Town.
6) Jacqueline Fernandez
Citizenship: Sri Lankan
Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Sri Lanka and holds Sri Lankan citizenship. She later moved to India to pursue a career in showbiz, and the rest is known to all.
7) Kalki Koechlin
Citizenship: French
Although born in Puducherry to French parents, Kalki Koechlin holds French citizenship. She has spent almost her entire life living and working in India, building a successful career in the Indian film industry.
8) Nargis Fakhri
Citizenship: American
Nargis Fakhri holds American citizenship and has a multicultural family background, with a Pakistani father and a Czech mother. Raised in the United States, the actress reportedly married Tony Beig, a US-based entrepreneur and investor of Kashmiri origin, last year.
9) Sunny Leone
Citizenship: Canadian & American
Sunny Leone holds both Canadian and American citizenship. Yes, you read that right! Born in Canada to a Punjabi Indian family, the actress, whose birth name is Karenjit Kaur Vohra, later moved to the United States before making her way into the entertainment industry under the name Sunny Leone.
