New Delhi, August 18: After an eventful Day 1, the Indian campaign at the BWF World Championships enters Day 2 on Tuesday. Six matches are scheduled to take place today across categories in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
The spotlight will be on Lakshya Sen and Unnati Hooda. Both the shuttlers will be shouldering the expectations of delivering an inch-perfect game after Ayush Shetty’s memorable upset against World No. 1 Shi Yuqi. BWF World Championships 2019 gold medalist PV Sindhu also kicked off her campaign in style and won against Sophie Noble of Ireland quite comfortably.
BWF World Championships Day 2
It is going to be a hectic day for our shuttlers at the IG Stadium. First up, we will have the mixed doubles pairing of Rohan Kapoor and Rutvija Gadde who will be up against Jonathan Lai and Crystal Lai from Canada.
Next up, in the women’s singles Round of 64, Unnati Hooda will face Myanmar’s Thet Htar Thuzar on Court 1.
India will also be represented in mixed doubles at around 1:20 pm on Court 3, with Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh taking on Türkiye’s Emre Sönmez and Yasemen Bektaş.
Later in the afternoon, attention shifts to the women’s doubles. In the evening on Court 2, Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi will begin their Round of 32 campaign against Bulgarian ninth seeds Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva, setting up a challenging test for the Indian pair.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who won their opening round, will then take on the American pairing of Lauren Lam and Allison Lee of the United States in the Round of 32
The highlight of Day 2 is, however, the last game, where Lakshya Sen will take on Collins Valentine Filimon from Austria in the opening round of the Men’s singles.
