Indian boxer Preeti Pawar heads into the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with momentum firmly on her side after enjoying the most successful season of her career. The 21-year-old, who represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has emerged as one of the country’s strongest medal contenders following a remarkable run of international success in the women’s 54kg category.
Preeti’s breakthrough campaign has been highlighted by a gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championships, where she defeated a three-time world champion in the final. She further underlined her growing stature by clinching titles at the World Boxing Cup Finals and the EUBC Gold Grand Prix, establishing herself among the leading boxers in her weight division.

Having consistently overcome elite international opponents over the past year, the Inspire Institute of Sport-supported boxer is now preparing for her maiden Commonwealth Games with renewed confidence. As India looks to maintain its proud boxing tradition at the Games, Preeti hopes to convert her outstanding form into a podium finish in Glasgow.
Speaking before the tournament, Preeti said representing India continues to be her greatest source of motivation while insisting her focus remains on preparation rather than expectations.
“The Commonwealth Games is another opportunity to represent India, and that’s always the biggest motivation for me. This year has been special because I’ve been able to perform consistently against some of the world’s best boxers, but every tournament is a fresh challenge. I don’t think too much about medals or expectations. My focus is to stay disciplined, trust my preparation and take one bout at a time. If I execute my plan inside the ring, the results will follow,” she said.
Preeti also credited the support system at the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) for helping her prepare for one of the biggest competitions of her career.
“My preparation has gone really well. Alongside the national camp, training at the Inspire Institute of Sport has helped me improve every aspect of my boxing. We’ve focused on technique, strength and conditioning, recovery and mental preparation. At this level, small improvements make a huge difference, and having experienced coaches and support staff constantly pushing me allows me to concentrate fully on becoming a better boxer. I feel ready for the Commonwealth Games,” she explained.
Reflecting on her rapid rise over the past year, the youngster believes competing against the world’s best has strengthened both her confidence and her mindset.
“Every competition teaches you something. Whether you win or lose, you always come back with new learnings. Facing top-level opponents has helped me understand my strengths as well as the areas where I can still improve. I enjoy that process because I believe there’s always something new to learn, and that’s what motivates me every day,” she added.
For Preeti, representing the country remains the greatest honour.
“Wearing the Indian jersey is always a proud moment because you’re competing for something much bigger than yourself. Hearing the national anthem after a victory is a feeling that’s hard to put into words, and it’s something I want to experience again. I’m grateful for the support of my family, coaches, teammates and everyone who has believed in me. My goal is to give my best in every bout and make India proud,” she said.
Armed with an Asian title, World Boxing Cup crown and victories over several of the sport’s biggest names, Preeti Pawar arrives in Glasgow as one of India’s brightest medal hopes. A strong performance at the Commonwealth Games would further cement her status as one of the world’s leading young boxers and mark another milestone in her rapidly rising career.
