Commonwealth Games 2026: Jadumani Singh Sets Up India vs Pakistan Boxing Clash

India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam cruised into the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s 55kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after a commanding unanimous decision victory over Scotland’s Aaron Cullen on Friday.

The 22-year-old will now face Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman on Sunday, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Jadumani Singh dominates home favourite

Competing against Scottish boxer Aaron Cullen in front of a partisan crowd at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), Jadumani remained unfazed by the atmosphere and controlled the contest from start to finish.

The Indian boxer won the opening two rounds convincingly, earning perfect 10s from all five judges in both rounds before sealing a 5-0 unanimous decision victory.

It was an impressive start to the tournament for Jadumani, who became the first Indian boxer to enter the ring at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Jadumani’s reward is a high-profile pre-quarterfinal clash against Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman, who received a bye in the preliminary round.

The bout is scheduled for Sunday, with the winner advancing to the quarter-finals of the men’s 55kg competition.

Jadumani Singh rise through the ranks

Jadumani enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last year, winning silver in the 50kg division at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Noida before moving up to the 55kg category in 2026.

His composed performance against Cullen underlined his growing credentials as India seeks another successful boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games.

India has fielded a 14-member boxing contingent in Glasgow, comprising seven men and seven women.

Earlier this week, Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain became the first Indian boxer assured of a medal after receiving a bye into the women’s 75kg semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Sachin Siwach will open his campaign in the men’s 60kg event on Saturday against Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh in the Round of 32.
