Cristian Chivu’s Extraordinary Inter Season Wins Serie A And Coppa Italia

Inter enter their final 2025-26 Serie A fixture against Bologna already champions, with Cristian Chivu celebrating a title and Coppa Italia double and several players collecting major awards, while statistical markers highlight both Inter’s dominance and Bologna’s uneven home record ahead of the clash at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

Chivu has also been confirmed as Serie A Coach of the Season before kick-off against Bologna on Saturday, joining Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco among the league’s individual award winners, after a campaign in which Inter posted one of the strongest attacking records in Italy’s three-points-per-win era.

“Cristian Chivu’s season at the helm of Inter has been simply extraordinary,” De Siervo said. “In his first year at the helm of a professional team since the start of the season, Chivu immediately demonstrated the winning DNA he possessed as a player. He guidedhis players to play solid yet proactive football, which led the Nerazzurri to finish the season averaging more than two goals per game and a margin of around 30 goals over the second-placed team.”

Chivu has needed only 48 Serie A matches as a head coach to become Italian champion, ranking second-fastest in the three-points-for-a-win era behind Jose Mourinho, while adding the Coppa Italia in the same season made Chivu the only manager to claim this specific double in a debut campaign with Inter.

Across the 2025-26 league season, Inter have already collected 86 points and could rise to 89 with victory over Bologna, a total that would still fall short of club tallies from 2006-07, 2020-21 and 2023-24 in Serie A, when Inter reached 97, 91 and 94 points respectively under different coaches.

Lautaro Martinez has been named Serie A’s best striker for 2025-26 after scoring 17 goals in 29 league appearances, more than any other player, while contributing six assists, numbers that underline Martinez’s central role in Inter’s attack and support De Siervo’s reference to the side averaging over two goals per game.

Federico Dimarco collected the award for Serie A’s best player in 2025-26, finishing the league campaign with 17 assists, the highest figure in the division, and only four players across Europe’s top five leagues in all competitions – Luis Diaz, Julian Ryerson, Bruno Fernandes and Michael Olise – produced more assists this season.

Serie A Inter focus: key players against Bologna

For Bologna, Riccardo Orsolini enters the final round having equalled Gino Cappello on 75 Serie A goals, placing level as the club’s 10th-highest scorer in the competition, and Orsolini has now recorded double figures in league goals for four consecutive seasons, a feat previously achieved by only six Bologna players.

Within Bologna’s history in the three-points-per-win era, which started in 1994-95, Marco Di Vaio had been the only player to reach at least 10 Serie A goals in four straight seasons before Orsolini, highlighting Orsolini’s consistency despite the team’s position of eighth, three points behind Atalanta, with European qualification already out of reach.

Lautaro Martinez, Inter’s attacking reference, has scored five Serie A goals against Bologna, but all those strikes came in home fixtures, and Stadio Renato Dall’Ara remains the stadium where Martinez has played the most top-flight minutes in Italy, 429 in total, without scoring a goal in league competition.
