CWG 2026: India Boxing Quintet assure Five More Medals, Rack Up Tally to 9 from Pugilists

India’s boxing contingent enjoyed a memorable day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow as Arundhati Choudhary, Sakshi, Ankush, Narender Berwal and Sachin Siwach stormed into the semifinals of their respective weight categories, guaranteeing at least five bronze medals for the country.

Under Commonwealth Games boxing rules, all semifinalists are assured of a medal, with the winners progressing to fight for gold and the losing semifinalists receiving bronze. Here’s a closer look at the five pugilists who have strengthened India’s medal tally.

Arundhati Choudhary (Women’s 70kg)

One of India’s finest middleweight boxers, Arundhati Choudhary overcame New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson 3-1 in a gritty quarterfinal to book her place in the last four. The reigning Asian champion had to battle an exhausting last-minute weight cut before producing a composed display in the ring, underlining her determination and championship mentality. She will now target a place in the gold medal bout.

Sakshi (Women’s 50kg)

Competing in the women’s 51kg division, Sakshi continued her impressive run with another assured performance to secure a semifinal berth. The young boxer has been among India’s most consistent performers in recent international events and now stands just one victory away from fighting for Commonwealth Games gold. She beat Caitlyn Fryers 5-0.

Ankush Panghal (Men’s 80kg)

Power-packed boxer Ankush has emerged as one of India’s standout performers in the men’s 80kg category. After clearing the opening rounds confidently, he advanced to the semifinals to guarantee India another boxing medal. Ankush secured a 5-0 win with a dominating performance as well.

Narender Berwal (Men’s 90+kg)

Heavyweight star Narender Berwal once again showcased his class by reaching the final four in the men’s 90+kg category. A former international medallist, Narender possesses immense knockout power and experience, making him one of India’s biggest hopes for a gold medal in Glasgow.

He beat Samoa’s Michael Seko 3-2 in a split decision to book his place in the last four.

Sachin Siwach (Men’s 60kg)

Former World Youth Champion Sachin Siwach continued his excellent form with another commanding victory to enter the semifinals of the men’s 60kg event. Known for his speed, technical precision and ring intelligence, Sachin has looked among the tournament favourites. He was excellent in the QF and won against Treasure Moremi 5-0.

India ensure 9 Boxing Medals

With their performances, the Indian pugilist contingent has now ensured 9 medals from the Glasgow edition of the Commonwealth Games. With the latest victories, Arundhati Choudhary, Sakshi, Sachin Siwach, Ankush and Narender Berwal joined Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jadumani Singh (55kg) in the semifinals, taking India’s tally of assured boxing medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 to nine, with each semifinalist guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
