CWG 2026: Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh Power India to Full House in Men’s Javelin Final

India enjoyed a perfect outing in the men’s javelin throw qualification at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as all three of its representatives, Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, and Yash Vir Singh – booked their places in the final after impressive performances in the qualifying rounds on Thursday.

With the top 12 athletes across the qualification progressing to the medal round, India has ensured a full contingent in Friday’s final, boosting the country’s hopes of adding another athletics medal to its tally.

India Trio qualify for Final

Neeraj Chopra comfortably sealed qualification with a best throw of 79.61m. Having already done enough to secure his place among the finalists, the reigning world and Olympic champion chose not to take his third and final attempt, conserving energy for the medal event.

Rohit Yadav also advanced after registering 78.37m. Like Chopra, Rohit skipped his final throw once qualification was assured, opting to save himself for the decisive contest.

Yash Vir Singh had to work much harder for his place in the final. After falling short with his opening attempts, the Indian produced his best throw of 78.36m on his third and final attempt, moving into the qualification places and completing India’s clean sweep.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage topped the qualification standings with an outstanding 82.84m, finishing ahead of Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters (81.29m), South Africa’s Douw Smit (80.64m), and England’s Ben East (80.38m).

Neeraj finished fifth overall in the qualifying standings, while Rohit and Yash placed ninth and tenth respectively.

One of the biggest moments of the session came from The Bahamas’ Keyshawn Strachan, whose only legal throw came on his third and final attempt. The effort of 78.60m lifted him into eighth place, pushing Kenya’s veteran Julius Yego out of the qualification spots. However, Yego eventually secured the final qualifying berth with 74.50m, while Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir narrowly missed out after throwing 74.36m.

Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem also progressed comfortably with a season’s best 78.63m, while former Olympic medallist Keshorn Walcott qualified with 78.26m.

With all three Indians safely through and Chopra eyeing another major international title, India will head into the men’s javelin throw final on Friday with strong medal aspirations.
