CWG 2026: Soman Rana clinches Gold for India Men’s F57 Shot Put, Shubham Juyal Wins Silver

India celebrated a memorable one-two finish in the men’s F57 shot put at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Soman Rana clinching the gold medal and Shubham Juyal securing silver in a dominant display of para athletics.

Soman Rana produced a season-best throw of 13.40m to stand atop the podium, while compatriot Shubham Juyal registered a season-best effort of 13.28m to finish second. Cameroon’s Cedric Idriss Lekezo Azamdzi took the bronze medal with a throw of 12.57m, also a season best.

The Indian duo remained locked in a fascinating battle throughout the competition before Rana’s best effort proved enough to edge out Juyal by just 12 centimetres, ensuring India completed a golden sweep in the event.

Rana, who competes in the F57 classification for athletes with lower-limb impairments competing in seated throwing events, once again underlined his consistency on the international stage. His winning throw of 13.40m marked his best performance of the season and added another major medal to India’s growing para athletics success.

Shubham Juyal also rose to the occasion with one of the finest performances of his career. His 13.28m effort was a season best and earned him a well-deserved Commonwealth Games silver, highlighting the depth India now possesses in the seated throws.

The F57 category features athletes with impairments affecting their lower limbs who compete from a throwing frame, demanding immense upper-body strength, technique and precision.

India’s gold and silver medals in the event further reinforced the country’s growing stature in para athletics, with Rana and Juyal delivering a commanding performance to ensure the tricolour flew highest in the men’s F57 shot put final.
