Daayra Overseas Review: Renowned filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, who has given us movies like Raazi, Sam Bahadur etc, is back to direction after three years and her recent release is creating waves in the town. We are talking about Daayra which is a crime thriller. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, Daayra marks the lead duo’s first collaboration and also their first project with Meghna. Interestingly, Daayra is said to be loosely based on the 2019 Hyderabad case which had made headlines and shook the nation back then.
To note, Daayra features both Prithviraj and Kareena in the role of cops. This is the third time Kareena is playing the role of a cop on the big screen after Angrezi Medium and The Buckingham Murders. Also starring Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, Biswapati Sarkar, Jitendra Joshi, etc in key roles, Daarya has been grabbing eyeballs for the intriguing trailer and the star cast. And as Daayra is hitting the screens today, here’s what the overseas audience has to say about it.
Daayra Overseas Review
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, a self proclaim critic from London Umair Sandhu gave Daayra a 2 star rating. He tweeted, “#Daayra : A boring thriller with a predictable, repetitive story that we’ve seen countless times on the silver screen. The lead actors deliver dull performances, and the film offers very little entertainment value for the masses. A tedious and forgettable watch”.
On the other hand, another Twitter user from UAE and Pakistan called Daayra a ‘strong and meaningful crime thriller’. However, he wasn’t pleased with Kareena’s performance. The Twitter user gave Daayra a rating of 2.5 stars and wrote, “#Prithviraj’s solid performance, but #KareenaKapoor was terrible. if there had been #AnushkaShetty… this would’ve been an Impactful movie or even, A Masterpiece.”
Meanwhile, talking about her character of Ajooni breaking stereotypes in Daayra, Kareena stated, “I think there is this stereotypical version that we have of a cop: that she is butch and she slightly has that particular walk, slightly manly, is gun-toting and does action. I think in this film, because of the sensitivity of the subject of the film also, Meghna was clear that she wanted a woman cop, somebody who is like a woman, who is feminine, who puts on lipstick but at the same time is quite stern, does everything with a smile and the way you saw her character of Ajooni who walks the road”.
