FIH Hockey World Cup 2026: Indian Women Leave for Europe to Begin Final Preparations

New Delhi, July 29: The Indian women’s hockey team departed for Europe on Wednesday to begin the final phase of its preparations for the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium and Netherlands 2026, which will be held from August 15 to 30.

The squad left from Bengaluru and travelled via Mumbai before flying to Frankfurt, Germany, where it will undergo a crucial training camp ahead of the prestigious tournament. As part of the build-up, India will play two practice matches against Germany on July 31 and August 1, providing the team with an opportunity to fine-tune combinations and acclimatise to European playing conditions.

Following the Germany leg, the team will travel to Amsterdam on August 2 to continue its preparations before the World Cup gets underway.

India have been drawn in Pool D alongside China, South Africa and England. The team will open its campaign against China on August 16, before taking on South Africa and England in the remaining group-stage fixtures.

Captain Salima Tete said the squad was confident after an encouraging training block and was eager to put its preparations into action.

“The entire squad is looking forward to the challenge ahead. We’ve had a good training block, and now it’s about carrying that momentum into the practice matches and then the World Cup. Facing China in our opening game will be an important test, and we want to start the tournament on a positive note. As a team, we are determined to give our best and make the country proud.“

Having spent months preparing for the tournament, the Indian side views the training camp in Germany and the two friendly matches as vital opportunities to sharpen its game before competing against some of the world’s best teams. The team will be aiming for a strong start in the World Cup as it looks to make a significant impact on the global stage.
