Former Germany player Toni Kroos has lamented a brutal scuffle after the 2026 World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina.
Spain ended Argentina’s reign as world champions with a dramatic 1-0 victory after extra time to lift the FIFA World Cup 2026 title at MetLife Stadium.

Substitute Ferran Torres emerged as the hero, smashing home the decisive goal in the 106th minute after Nico Williams’ headed cutback found him inside the box. The victory secured Spain’s second World Cup crown, their first since 2010, and completed a remarkable campaign built on defensive solidity and relentless attacking football.
Luis de la Fuente’s side controlled the contest from the opening whistle, dominating possession and creating chance after chance. However, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez delivered one of the finest performances of his career, producing a series of spectacular saves to deny Spaniards.
The triumph also saw Spain become the first nation to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup titles, while they finished the tournament having conceded just one goal in eight matches, underlining one of the greatest defensive campaigns in World Cup history.
Germany Legend takes Brutal Dig at Argentina
Argentina have had a controversial run in this World Cup. There were decisions which allegedly went in their favour, but they reached the final for the second time in a row. On the day, Lionel Messi and his team were largely underwhelming, failing to showcase anything going forward. Argentina’s first shot came in the 117th minute from Lionel Messi, as they became the first team failing to take a shot in a World Cup final.
And immediately after Spain were crowned Champions, Leandro Paredes and other Argentina players were seen in scuffle and argument with Spanish players. A video has surfaced which showed Paredes slamming Gavi down on the pitch after the final whistle blew.
Germany legend Toni Kroos took to social media and took a brutal dig. The former World Cup winner just wrote two words on X, writing ‘Football Won’. The post has gone viral as it has been viewed around 8.6 million times, with a like count of around 760 thousand.
Argentina players were not disciplined during the match, and continued it after the final whistle. Paredes was also shown a Red Card after the final for attacking the Spanish player.
