Rohit Sharma, India’s limited-overs stalwart, returns for the 2026 Afghanistan series at 39, his first apperance for India since January. With the series offering three opportunities against a relatively weaker attack, the “Hitman” is poised to etch his name deeper into ODI record books.

1. Becoming the 6th Player to Reach 12,000 ODI Runs
Rohit currently sits on 11,577 ODI runs (after 282 matches). He needs just 423 more runs to become only the sixth batter in history to cross the 12,000-run mark. Given his form and favorable conditions, a couple of big knocks (including a potential century) could see him achieve this early in the series. This milestone would place him alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and others in ODI immortality.
2. Reaching 1,100 Career ODI Fours
Rohit has already smashed 1,089–1,090 fours in ODIs. He is just 11 fours away from the 1,100 mark. Known for his elegant strokeplay and ability to find boundaries consistently, Rohit could tick this off in a single high-scoring innings. This would further cement his status as one of the cleanest timers of the cricket ball in white-ball history.
