India Crush Zimbabwe by 90 Runs in 2nd T20I to Seal Series Under Captain Shreyas Iyer

Team India delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the second T20 International at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The massive victory gives India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, marking Shreyas Iyer’s first series win as the Indian captain.

Riding on spectacular half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, India posted a mammoth total of 219/5 in their 20 overs. In reply, the hosts crumbled under the pressure of the steep chase and were bundled out for just 129 in 17.5 overs.

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and elected to field first. The decision backfired as the Indian batters went on an absolute onslaught.

Ishan Kishan, who was named the Player of the Match, anchored the innings beautifully while playing aggressive shots all around the park. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed a breathtaking 81 off just 44 balls, a knock studded with nine boundaries and two huge sixes.

He was perfectly supported by the young Tilak Varma, who played a destructive cameo. Varma raced to 60 runs off a mere 29 deliveries, hitting five fours and three maximums. Captain Shreyas Iyer chipped in with a steady 25 off 20 balls.

The spotlight was also on 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Ahead of the match, Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza had strongly defended the teenager, urging critics to be patient and calling him a “generational talent”. Sooryavanshi repaid the faith by playing a whirlwind knock of 20 runs from just 9 balls (three fours, one six), providing India with late momentum alongside Rinku Singh (12 off 8 balls).

Abhishek Sharma and Yash Thakur Derail the Chase

Faced with a daunting target of 220, Zimbabwe never really looked comfortable during their run chase. Brian Bennett was the only batter who showed some resistance at the top, scoring a rapid 32 off 19 balls. However, the Indian bowlers consistently picked up wickets at regular intervals.

Abhishek Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for India, finishing with excellent figures of 3/17 in his 2.5 overs.
The match also saw a memorable debut for Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur, who replaced Ashok Sharma in the playing XI. Thakur had a dream start to his T20I career, taking 2 wickets for 30 runs in his quota of four overs. He importantly dismissed a dangerous-looking Tadiwanashe Marumani (24 off 19 balls) with a brilliantly disguised slower delivery that crashed into the stumps.

Pacer Prince Yadav also contributed with two quick wickets (2/10) but had to leave the field after bowling just 1.2 overs due to an injury. Spinners Ravi Bishnoi (1/20) and part-timers Shivam Dube (1/13) and Tilak Varma (1/9) also joined the party, sharing a wicket each to wrap up the match.

With the series now safely in the bag, India will look to complete a clean sweep when the two sides meet for the final T20I at the same venue tomorrow.
