India are set to begin their three-match ODI series against West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, September 27, with the match scheduled to start at 2 PM IST.
The series is also an important part of the teams’ preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, as the Shubman Gill-led team will be hoping to put up a strong show.
The biggest talking point for India is the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the ODI setup. Both veterans are part of the 15-member squad after missing India’s recent ODI assignment. Shubman Gill will continue as captain, while KL Rahul has been named vice-captain.
Ravindra Jadeja also returns to the ODI squad, adding an experienced all-round option. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Dhruv Jurel are among the players competing for places in the XI.
India, however, are without several regular names. Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel are unavailable as they are involved with India’s Asian Games contingent. Nitish Kumar Reddy was withdrawn from the Asian Games squad and will instead feature in the ODI series.
The selectors have also handed maiden ODI call-ups to Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi, while Gurnoor Brar provides another pace option.
West Indies will be led by Shai Hope, who is also the wicketkeeper. John Campbell returns after recovering from a hamstring injury and is in contention to open.
Ackeem Auguste is unavailable while recovering from surgery, with Jewel Andrew coming into the ODI squad as a replacement. Shimron Hetmyer has been rested for the ODI series and is expected to join the team for the T20Is. Jason Holder is also absent from the tour.
The visitors retain a core featuring Roston Chase, Keacy Carty, Sherfane Rutherford, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie and Jayden Seales, while younger players such as Jewel Andrew and Vitel Lawes provide additional options.
