It will be the first bilateral series win for the Men in Blue after successfully defending the ICC T20 World Cup title earlier this year. India’s transition under new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has been far from smooth. The team endured a disappointing start to the new era, suffering a shock 2-0 series defeat against Ireland, the first time India have lost a T20I bilateral series to the Irish side. They were comfortably beaten by 34 runs in the opener before falling agonisingly short by a single run in the second match.

The struggles continued on the subsequent tour of England. After persistent rain washed out the opening fixture in Chester-le-Street, India failed to recover, losing the remaining four matches to hand Harry Brook’s side a commanding 4-0 series victory.

Despite the disappointing results, one of the few talking points was the introduction of teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Handed opportunities in three matches, the young batter showed glimpses of promise but could not convert his starts, registering scores of 14, 13 and 15.
