Glasgow, July 29: India’s impressive run at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continued on Tuesday (July 28) as Harjinder Kaur and Gulveer Singh clinched silver medals to take the country’s tally to 12 medals and keep Team India in eighth place in the overall standings.
Harjinder opened India’s medal account for the day with a silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event before Gulveer scripted history by becoming the first Indian ever to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m, also finishing with silver.
With the two podium finishes, India now has 2 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals after four days of competition in Glasgow.
Australia Continue to Lead
Australia remain comfortably on top of the medals table with 72 medals (32 gold, 16 silver and 24 bronze). Canada are second with 33 medals, while England occupy third place with an overall haul of 42 medals. Hosts Scotland are fourth, followed by Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia and India.

India’s Medal Winners at Commonwealth Games 2026
Harjinder Kaur bagged country’s first medal on Tuesday with a silver medal in the 69kg women’s final and adding to the country’s successful medal tally in the sport. Moments later, Gulveer Singh bagged the seventh silver medal for the country at the ongoing multi-sport competition and created history by becoming the first long distance runner from India to finish at the podium in Commonwealth Games history.

Weightlifting Continues to Lead India’s Medal Rush
Weightlifting remains India’s most successful discipline in Glasgow, accounting for seven of the country’s 12 medals. The Indian lifters have won one gold, five silver and one bronze, continuing the nation’s rich legacy in the sport at the Commonwealth Games.
Harjinder Kaur’s silver in the women’s 69kg category further strengthened India’s impressive showing on the weightlifting platform after medals from Mirabai Chanu, Rishikanta Singh Chanambam, Muthupandi Raja, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Bindyarani Devi and Valluri Ajaya Babu.
Athletics Enjoying a Historic Campaign
Indian athletics has also enjoyed one of its finest Commonwealth Games campaigns. Sharmila became the first Indian ever to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in para athletics, while Shilpa Kanchugarakoppalu Shyla added bronze in the same event.
Sarvesh Kushare created history by becoming the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men’s high jump, while Gulveer Singh rewrote another chapter by becoming the first Indian medallist in the men’s 10,000m in Commonwealth Games history.
With boxing, badminton, wrestling and several athletics finals still to come, India will look to continue its medal surge and climb further up the standings over the remaining days of the Games.
