IPL 2026: Entire CSK Team Heavily Fined after ‘Code of Conduct’ Breach, Ruturaj Gaikwad gets Heaviest Blow

The entire Chennai Super Kings playing squad has been penalised after the team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate in their IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.

The IPL has confirmed the sanction on the entire CSK team, who got eliminated from the tournament after a heavy defeat at the hands of the Titans.

In a significant development, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was slapped with a fine of INR 24 lakhs for the team’s second slow over-rate offence of the season. The remaining members of the Playing XI, along with the Impact Player, will each be fined INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower. This collective penalty, issued under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, has put the spotlight on CSK’s on-field discipline issues during a difficult campaign.

The slow over-rate violation occurred during GT’s innings, which featured multiple big overs and fielding delays. This marked CSK’s second offence of the season, having been warned earlier in Match 18. The BCCI’s strict enforcement has resulted in the entire squad sharing the financial burden.

The match itself was a high-scoring, one-sided affair. Gujarat Titans, batting first, posted a formidable 229/4 in 20 overs. Skipper Shubman Gill (64 off 37) and B Sai Sudharsan (84 off 53) laid a strong foundation, while Jos Buttler provided a blistering finish with an unbeaten 57 off just 27 balls. In reply, CSK’s batting collapsed dramatically as they were bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs, suffering a heavy 89-run defeat. The game was virtually over inside the first eight overs of the chase as GT’s bowlers dominated proceedings.

With this loss, CSK’s playoff hopes have been officially extinguished, bringing a disappointing end to their title defence. Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, strengthened their position in the top two with this commanding victory.
