The IPL 2027 mini-auction will take place in Goa on December 16, with all 10 franchises preparing to strengthen their squads ahead of the upcoming season.
The day-long event will be held on the same day as the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, as a report from Cricinfo confirmed on Monday.
The auction will take place nearly a month after the retention deadline, which the IPL has set for November 15. Following the deadline, the league will share the registered player pool with franchises, allowing them to shortlist potential targets before the final list and auction set order are circulated in the week leading up to the event.
IPL auction Returns in India
The IPL auction is set to return to India after three consecutive overseas editions. Goa will reportedly host the 2027 mini-auction on December 16, marking the first time since Kochi hosted the auction in December 2022 that franchises will bid for players on Indian soil. The 2027 edition will feature the final mini-auction of the IPL’s current cycle, with a mega auction scheduled ahead of the 2028 season.
When Will IPL 2027 Begin?
The IPL has yet to announce the official schedule for the 2027 season. Previously announced planning windows had indicated a March 14 to May 30 period, although BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia suggested in September that the tournament could begin towards the end of March. The final dates are expected to be confirmed later.
Mega Auction Expected Ahead of IPL 2028
The upcoming mini-auction will be significant as franchises prepare for the transition to the next squad-building cycle. The 2028 mega auction is expected to precede the IPL’s next media-rights cycle, with the BCCI yet to issue the relevant tender.
