Hull City have confirmed Jack Butland as the club’s first signing since promotion to the Premier League, securing the goalkeeper from Rangers on a two-year contract with an option for a further season in a move reported to be worth 3m, ahead of facing Manchester United.
The transfer follows Hull City’s decision to sell last season’s goalkeeper, Ivor Pandur, to Rangers earlier in the week in a reported 6m deal, as the Tigers reshape their squad before beginning a first top-flight campaign in nine years against Manchester United, where Butland previously spent time on loan in 2023.

Butland arrives after an intensive spell at Rangers, where the goalkeeper played every minute of the Scottish Premiership season in 2025-26 and totalled 55 appearances across all competitions, underlining reliability before Hull City moved to bring the experienced former Premier League player back to England’s top division.
Across three seasons with Rangers, Butland made 157 appearances in all tournaments and collected the Scottish League Cup during the first campaign, while also being recognised individually as the club’s Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year, confirming a strong impact at the Old Firm side.
Butland previously featured in the Premier League with Crystal Palace between 2020 and 2023, then joined Manchester United on loan in 2023, and now re-enters the division with Hull City as the promoted club seek experience in goal to help manage the demands of returning to elite competition.
“I’m delighted it’s all sorted now, and I’m really excited to be here,” he told the club’s media. “It’s a great challenge and a fantastic season to look forward to. The challenge is obvious but an exciting one.” The club highlighted the announcement on social media channels.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and, personally, it’s a great opportunity to be on the biggest stage again. I believe it’s the level I’m capable of playing at, and I’ve done it before. As a club, we’ve got a great challenge back in the Premier League, not just to stay in the league but to really enjoy it and do as well as we can. It can’t come quickly enough. I’m really looking forward to seeing the fans in a really exciting season for us as a club.”
