Kylian Mbappe creates History, goes Past Lionel Messi as Highest Goal Scorer in World Cup

Kylian Mbappé has created history as the highest goal scorer in World Cup against England in the third-place playoff match of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Frenchman has been in immense form in this World Cup, and on Saturday (July 18), Mbappe has already netted a brace, taking him to the summit of the goal scorers in World Cup history.

Mbappe has now scored 22 goals in World Cups, thus overtaking Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who is one behind. Although Messi will have a chance to overtake Mbappe or match him, for now, the Real Madrid star has claimed the top spot.

The Frenchman made his World Cup debut in 2018 World Cup, where he netted 4 goals as they became Champions. Four years ago in Qatar, Mbappé hit 8 goals as France ended as runners-up. In this edition of the tournament, Mbappé has scored 10 goals.
