In a shocking turn of events, former Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s niece, Bristy Mukherjee, has reportedly died by suicide.

TMC leader and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, is now mourning the shocking loss of her niece Bristy Mukherjee. According to The Telegraph, Bristy was found hanging at her home in Rampurhat, Birbhum, today (September 1).
According to India Today, Bristy’s body was found on the second floor of her house at around 9:00 AM today. Police reportedly suspect that she died by suicide. For the unversed, 28-year-old Bristy was the daughter of Nihar Mukherjee, Mamata Banerjee’s maternal cousin and a regional TMC leader.

Bristy Mukherjee’s body was sent to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Was Mamata Banerjee’s Niece Bristy Mukherjee Struggling Mentally?
While the exact cause behind her taking this drastic step is yet to be determined, her close relatives have claimed that she had been depressed lately over her divorce case and was undergoing treatment for her mental health, as reported by HT.

Additionally, she was also one of those who had lost their jobs because of the cash-for-job scam. She was working as a non-teaching staff member at Bolpur Upper Primary School. However, in March 2023, she reportedly lost her job after the Supreme Court cancelled the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in state government-aided schools in connection with the alleged ‘cash-for-jobs’ recruitment case.
As per an ABP Bangla report, one of the relatives stated that Bristy and her estranged husband had two kids.
