Manipuri Singer Murder Case: Popular Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh’s death has triggered widespread anger and grief across the country. The 55-year-old artist died on Monday morning (September 7), after allegedly being attacked by a group of men outside his residence in southeast Delhi.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also spoken out against the incident, taking to social media to express his anger and concern over the alleged brutal murder of the Manipuri musician.

Originally hailing from Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai in Imphal West, Chongtham Vikram Singh was a prominent figure in Manipur’s rock music scene. He began his musical journey in the early 1980s and went on to establish himself as a renowned guitarist and music teacher.

The shocking death of the 55-year-old Manipuri musician in Delhi has left everyone in deep shock. Singh was allegedly attacked by a group of men late on Sunday night in Kilokari village, southeast Delhi, following a dispute over noise outside his residence. According to police and his family, Singh had stepped out after objecting to the group allegedly creating a disturbance near his home.
He was immediately taken to Holy Family Hospital in Okhla by his son, but doctors could not save him. The hospital report reportedly listed haemorrhagic shock caused by blunt force trauma as the cause of death. Singh had been living in Delhi for nearly two decades before the tragic incident.

Chongtham Vikram Singh came from a family with a strong musical legacy. His mother, Chongtham Kamala, is a renowned Manipuri classical and playback singer who lent her voice to Matamgi Manipur in 1972, the first feature film made in the Manipuri language. She has often been hailed as the “Lata Mangeshkar of the Manipuri film industry.”

Singh also shared a family connection with Lakshmipriya Devi, the director of India’s first BAFTA Award-winning film Boong.
He was married to Jyotsana. The late Manipuri musician is survived by his 54-year-old wife and their 20-year-old son, Yaiphaba, who is pursuing a law degree. Jyotsana reportedly works as a senior consultant at a multinational company.
