Max Verstappen F1 Ambition Ends Here: “Way Too Demanding”

Max Verstappen has ambitious plans for the racing team bearing his name, but the four-time Formula 1 world champion has ruled out one major possibility: entering Verstappen Racing into F1.

The Dutchman founded the team in 2022, with the outfit competing across GT3 categories and increasingly turning its attention towards endurance racing. Verstappen has also driven for his own team, including at this year’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

Max Verstappen wants a team built to win

Verstappen sees his racing operation becoming a serious force across multiple categories over the next decade.

Asked where he wants the team to be in 10 to 20 years, Verstappen said the objective is to compete for victories rather than simply participate.

“We want to be at the front, win races, and, at the very least, consistently compete at the front.”

He added that the team’s expansion would depend partly on his own future choices in F1, but made its preferred direction clear.

“Specifically toward endurance racing, not toward Formula 1 or anything like that.”

Why Max Verstappen has no interest in becoming an F1 team owner

Verstappen’s decision is largely about the enormous commitment required to run an F1 operation.

Asked directly whether Verstappen Racing could eventually join the F1 grid, he replied:

“No! Because that’s way too demanding.”

The Red Bull driver pointed to the existing F1 calendar and the demands of running his own racing operation as incompatible commitments.

“Then I’d still be on the road for 24 races a year or very busy with my own racing team.”

For Verstappen, ownership would also require a level of personal involvement that makes an F1 entry particularly unattractive.

“If you’re a truly dedicated team owner who wants to get everything right, you have to stay on top of things and be there in person.”

While he accepts that day-to-day operations could be delegated to others, Verstappen admitted he is not someone who could comfortably remain detached from his team.

“I’m not the type of person who can lie on a beach for five races without knowing what’s going on with my team.”

That desire for control, combined with the demands of the F1 calendar, makes an F1 expansion unlikely.

Endurance racing is Verstappen’s bigger ambition

Verstappen has repeatedly expressed his interest in GT and endurance racing, and his own team’s future appears increasingly tied to those categories.

His participation in the Nürburgring 24 Hours earlier this year provided another example of how seriously he takes that side of his racing career.

For now, Verstappen’s vision is therefore not about creating another F1 team, but building a professional outfit capable of winning across GT and endurance racing – potentially giving him a significant role in motorsport long after his F1 career ends.
