Nayanthara is set to star in a lead role in the upcoming fantasy film Mookuthi Amman 2. Directed by Sundar C, the film has reportedly secured a major OTT deal.
Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 locks massive OTT deal?
According to an update shared by industry insider Ramesh Bala, the makers have reportedly secured an OTT deal with JioHotstar. While the exact amount has not been revealed, the update states that the deal is worth a substantial sum.
As the film gears up for release, the update also states that actress Regina Cassandra will play the main antagonist in the sequel.
The upcoming movie Mookuthi Amman 2 will serve as a sequel to the 2020 film Mookuthi Amman. The first instalment was directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan. The fantasy comedy featured Nayanthara in the lead role, portraying a deity.
The film follows Engels, a reporter who lives with his family. However, his life takes a turn when the deity of his ancestral temple appears at his home, fulfilling his wishes, showering blessings, and exposing fake godmen through satire.
With Nayanthara and RJ Balaji in the lead roles, the film featured an ensemble cast, including Urvashi, Smruthi Venkat, Madhu Mailankody, Abinaya, Moulee, Ajay Ghosh, and many others in key roles. The movie was originally released directly on OTT back on November 14, 2020..
Nayanthara’s work front
Nayanthara will next be seen in the Yash-starrer action drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas. The film is set in a stylised underworld and follows Raya, whose actions begin to lead to his own downfall with the arrival of his son, Ticket.
Apart from Yash and Nayanthara, the film features Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth in co-lead roles. Akshay Oberoi, Sudev Nair, Amit Tiwari, and several others also play key roles.
Toxic is a Kannada-English bilingual film that will also be released in multiple Indian languages. It is slated to hit theatres on August 26, 2026. Additionally, Nayanthara’s romantic comedy-drama Hi, co-starring Kavin, will release on August 28.
