For the past 72 years, the National Film Awards ceremony has traditionally been held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. However, that long-standing tradition is set to change this year. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), the 72nd ceremony will be held in Ekta Nagar (formerly Kevadia), Gujarat. Yes, you read that right-the prestigious event is moving out of Delhi this year!

Why Will The National Film Awards 2026 Ceremony NOT Be Held In Delhi?
So, why is the National Film Awards ceremony breaking its decades-old tradition and moving away from Delhi this year? According to a report by India Weekly, the change could be connected to President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Gujarat. As part of her itinerary, the President is expected to visit Ekta Nagar, providing an opportunity to host the prestigious awards ceremony at the same location.
Ekta Nagar, formerly known as Kevadia, is famously home to the Statue of Unity, one of Gujarat’s most iconic landmarks. Interestingly, the monument also has a connection to this year’s National Film Awards.
