National Ranking Table Tennis Championships: Payas Jain wins Men’s Title, Syndrela Das racks Two Titles

Delhi paddler Payas Jain and West Bengal’s Syndrela Das emerged as the men’s and women’s singles champions at the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships as the finals concluded at the Sportz Hub in Kanpur on Sunday.

It was a field day for the two promising table tennis players, who have been excellent over the last few months across various competitions.

Men’s Singles: Payas Overcomes Manav Thakkar

Third-seeded Payas Jain claimed the men’s singles title with a 4-1 victory over second-seeded Manav Thakkar of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB). The final witnessed powerful rallies as both players exchanged early dramatic swings. Jain secured the opening game 11-3 before Thakkar responded to take the second game 11-9 and level the match.

Jain regained the lead by winning a tense third game 11-5. He maintained control through the fourth and fifth games, holding his nerve during tight moments to close out the match 12-10, 11-8. Earlier in the semifinals, Jain defeated RSPB’s Jeet Chandra 4-1, while Thakkar survived a challenge from Haryana’s Ankur Bhattacharjee by a similar margin.

Women’s Singles: Double Delight for Syndrela Das

The women’s singles final provided a hard-fought contest spanning six games. Syndrela Das defeated Maharashtra’s Divyanshi Bhowmick 4-2 to claim the championship.

Bhowmick started strong, taking the first game 11-9. Das quickly found her rhythm, winning the next two games 11-8, 11-8 to pull ahead. The Maharashtra paddler fought back in the fourth game with an 11-5 win to level the match at 2-2. However, Das regained her composure to seal the fifth game 11-7 and edged out a tight sixth game 11-9.

Das completed a memorable tournament by also securing the Youth Girls Under-19 Singles title. She defeated Tamil Nadu’s Ananya Muralidharan 4-1 in the final, establishing herself as a dual champion in Kanpur.

Youth Boys U-19: Priyanuj Wins a Seven-Game Thriller
The Under-19 Boys’ Singles final delivered the most dramatic match of the day. RSPB’s Priyanuj Bhattacharrya edged past Tamil Nadu’s P.B. Abhinand 4-3.

After falling behind in the opening game, Bhattacharrya took the second and third. Abhinand levelled the match and later secured a gruelling marathon fifth game 23-21. Facing a deficit, Bhattacharrya showed superior composure in the final two games, winning 11-4, 11-7 to take the title.
